hidcomp is an EMC user mode component to provide access to USB HID devices. A HID device is a Human Interface Device, things like joysticks, gamepads, multimedia controllers (like the Shuttle Pro), and more exotic devices like barcode scanners, alphanumeric displays, medical instruments and home made USB pendants.<br /><br />Why another HID interface component when EMC already has hal_input and hal_joystick?<br /><br /> hidcomp was written to support my home made USB pendant (this is another project, GenericHID)<br /> hidcomp uses the low level USB protocols and does its own HID interfacing, so it can, or can be modified to, work with non-standard, or just more complex devices.<br /> It supports additional controls on a device...<br /> Encoder support, which allows devices like Contour Design's, Shuttle Pro to work<br /> Alphanumeric displays, currently only supporting text mode displays<br /> Hat switches.<br /> Selector switches.<br /> Adds scaling and shaping of analogue inputs (e.g. joystick axis)<br /> hidconfig makes it easier to find and configure HID devices<br /> Correctly finds and handles multiple identical devices, e.g. 2 Logitech gamepads<br />
