mysqmail is a replacement for the qmail standard checkpasswd that performs authentication with a MySQL table. After authentication, mysqmail sets up two environment variables that it uses to perform traffic accounting. For SMTP, it provides an alternative logger for the qmail-send program. Instead of logs, it writes the traffic to a MySQL table for the related domain. MySQmail helps keeping all the qmail MTA login and trafic informations in a database. This tool was written mostly to work with Domain Technologie Control (DTC). MySQMail is not mandatory for DTC, but its a way better to have it. I needed to have qmail accounting, so I had to write couples of binaries. Fortunatly qmail is modular and its realy easy to make some add-ons. Here is what MySQmail package will add to qmail: pop will use MySQL backend for password, and both SMTP and POP will have trafic logged into MySQL by mailbox. Using a web GUI for admin and accounting all hosting services,DTC can delegate the task of creating subdomains, email, and FTP accounts to usersfor the domain names they own. DTC manages a MySQL database containing all the hostinginformation. It has support for many programs (bind 8 and 9 and compatibles, MySQL,Apache 1.3, php4, qmail, postfix 2, courier, dovecot, proftpd, webalizer, mod-log-sql, etc.)through config files and/or MySQL plugins (when the service is non-critical). It can alsogenerate backup scripts, calculation scripts, and config files using a single system UID/GIDand monitor all traffic accounting per user and per service. Since version 0.12,DTC is fully skinable and translated in several languages (Chinese, English, Spanish, French, Dutch, German, Italian, Russian, Hungarian and Polish).
