Popper is a small and simple solution to messaging between Linux and Windows-based machines. It sits quietly in the system tray and pops up a message should one be received from a computer on the network. All 32-bit Windows variants come with some sort of messaging program compatible with these kind of messages, and there are several available for Linux.
