KXStudio is a Linux distribution aimed at artists, producers, musicians as well as regular users.<br /><br />Like Ubuntu, it has very strong security, it's easy to use and it's free of charge!<br /><br />KXStudio uses KDE as the default Session with a black QtCurve theme. (preview here)<br /><br />It features the best open-source applications available, including Ardour, Audacity, Blender, digiKam, Firefox, Gimp, Inkscape, Kdenlive, Mixxx, OpenOffice.org, VLC, and many others.<br /><br />For some of these applications, unstable releases are available too (Ardour 3.0, Blender 2.5, Mixxx 1.8, etc).<br /><br />KXStudio is a complete OS for almost all studio requirements - Audio (Production and Mastering), Graphic Design, Video Editing and 3D Animation.<br /><br />It fully supports 64-bit systems, so you can enjoy all the features you usually see in 32bit PCs now on 64bit too.<br /><br />For Audio, users will love to know that Jack2 in present and that *all* audio output is send to Jack. This includes Pulse-Audio, which means that you don't have to stop Jack if you need to, for example, open a Web Browser to watch some tutorial videos.<br /><br />Lots of Audio Plugins are installed by default (LADSPA, DSSI, LV2 and VST), and, as a special gift for users, Ardour, Jost and QTractor are available with VST support!<br /><br />You can easily configure your plugins Paths/Folders, and also download-and-install new VST Plugins, through the KXStudio Audio Plugins Module. (previews here and here)<br /><br />For Graphic Design, KolourPaint is a good choice for novices, while Gimp and Krita are there for a more professional work. If don't like to work with bitmaps, Inkscape (or even Karbon) can be handy tools.<br /><br />For Video Editing, Kdenlive takes care of almost you need. There's another good video editor with a lot of great features, Cinelerra, but not as simple to use as Kdenlive. You can, of course, install other Video applications, like OpenShot, if you feel more comfortable with it.<br /><br />For 3D Animation, it's Blender, forever. This comes with Yafaray support "out-of-the-box", useful to get very realistic renders!
