The Noon Shadow model shows the geometry of the shadow cast by a gnomon at noon. Users can change the orientation of the gnomon as well as its latitude. The height of the gnomon and its shadow length are displayed in Earth radius units. It is a supplemental simulation for an article by Barbara Rovsek "Calibration of a Horizontal Sundial" in the The Physics Teacher 48 (6), 397-400 (2010).<br /><br />Noon Shadow model is distributed as a ready-to-run (compiled) Java archive. Double clicking the ejs_astronomy_Noon Shadow.jar file will run the program if Java is installed. You can modify this simulation if you have EJS installed by right-clicking within the plot and selecting "Open EJS Model" from the pop-up menu item.
