Case Tracker Plus 6.x-2.9

A feature-based version of Case Tracker, which relies much more heavily on standard Drupal modules like CCK and Comment Driven, and is thus much more extensible. Contains nearly 100% of the functionality of Case Tracker, and then some, with Gantt charts, progress and duration fields, and task dependencies out-of-the-box. Included submodules provide Open Atrium integration and migration from Case Tracker and Storm environments.Specifically, this Feature provides two new content types (Task and Project) replete with CCK fields such as "Progress", "Duration", etc... and several Views of tasks and projects, including a Gantt chart. It styles the CCK fields on Tasks and Projects in a way that can easily accommodate new custom fields, and allows these fields to be updated via comments.DependenciesViews, CCK (Date, FileField, Node Reference, Number, User Reference), jsGantt Views, Comment Driven, Spaces, Features, StrongarmSubmodulesOA CT Plus: Integrates CT Plus with Open Atrium. Note: Open Atrium users will likely need to disable iTweak Upload, as it seems to be incompatible with Comment Driven: #917270: Incompatible with iTweak UploadCT Plus Convert from CT / Storm: Converts traditional Case Tracker content or Storm content to CT Plus content. The built-in conversion utility to migrate from Case Tracker requires Case Tracker Progress and Duration fields to already be enabled (available at http://danepowell.com/fserver), and the patch to Comment Driven at #825304: Support comments not inserted via FAPI. PLEASE TEST THIS ON A DEVELOPMENT COPY OF YOUR SITE FIRST - it has only been tested in one development environment (using stock Open Atrium installation with Case Tracker, CT Duration and CT Progress).Setup / Spaces integrationThere are several important steps to installing this module. First, you must give Features time to create all of the content types and corresponding CCK fields. Sometimes this happens immediately, sometimes it can take several minutes.If you're not using the Open Atrium integration, you'll need to enable the CT Plus feature for your site space in order to create content. This is because Spaces is currently integrated with CT Plus (see below). If you don't do this, you'll get an "Access denied" page when trying to create content". You'll also need to add the Views to a menu and/or context to access them.Regarding Spaces integration: I really don't think CT Plus should be dependent on Spaces. Rather, I think the OA CT Plus submodule should be spaces-enabled. However, I'm having trouble shifting the dependency from CT Plus to OA CT Plus. If anyone has experience with Spaces and would be willing to help, I'd appreciate it if you could weigh in on #997282: Move Spaces dependency (and other OA-specific features) to OA CT PlusCustomizing CT PlusThe primary advantage of this module over Case Tracker (at least in my mind) is that it uses standardized "lego" construction, using CCK fields, content types, and other "exportables" or "faux-exportables", which can be altered by site developers to suit their own needs. Traditionally, if you want to make changes to a module, you hack the module code locally and then reconcile the changes you've made with changes the module developer makes in future releases - this is known as vendor branching, and is tedious and error-prone. Features makes this process easier by allowing site developers to maintain those changes in modules of their own, rather than by directly hacking the module of interest. This means that you can make a module that will override almost any component of CT Plus, including adding new fields, changing the allowed values of fields, etc...The learning curve on this can be a bit steep, and I'm afraid I won't always be able to help, so I'd suggest using the following resources: * Guide to customizing Atrium - CT Plus is not directly related to Atrium, but both are distributed as Features, and thus the principles behind how to customize them are the same. * Features project page - There are some links to readme and API files. You can try using the issue queue as well. Unfortunately, there's not great documentation on how to customize Features distributed by others - the best guide I've found is the Atrium guide above. If you have as frustrating of an experience as I did learning how to customize features, you might consider egging on the maintainers to improve the documentation, or write it yourself!Roadmap / Future plansThere are several improvements that I'd like to make - however, it's impossible to lay out a definitive (or even vague) development timeline. * #1000464: Improve documentation * #995092: Comparison with the CT2 Plans * #997282: Move Spaces dependency (and other OA-specific features) to OA CT Plus * Drupal 7 port * "QuickComment" or "QuickEdit" feature - this would allow you to (for instance) quickly change a task's status from the task list by using AJAX to display the comment or edit form for a task. * Improved Gantt charting - the current Gantt chart solution is expensive (in CPU/resource terms) and doesn't scale well. I'd like to replace this with a solution that has more features and allows inline editing of tasksDevelopment / maintenance / issue queue policyI strive to be a responsive and responsible maintainer, but my time and resources are limited, and development is not my full-time job. Thus, I appreciate it if you can do some legwork of your own before posting issues: 1. Google any error messages, thoroughly search the project page and issue queue for solutions, poke through configuration options, etc... and try to find a solution on your own. Not only will this save me time and hassle, but you might learn something in the process :) 2. If you can't solve the problem on your own (or if you'd like to share your solution), please post in the issue queue rather than contacting me directly. Please include a complete description of the problem, including events leading up to it, resulting behavior, and steps taken to resolve it. 3. Realize that I might not be able to reply immediately, and that issues are most likely to get noticed if they are accompanied by patches or sponsorship :)
