a novel approach to foreground andbackground segmentation based on image defocus ispresented. Defocus is measured using a modifiedapproach to distinguish between high-contrast defocusededges and low-contrast focused edges. Thereare two main advantages in defocus-based segmentation.One, defocus measurements are computationallysimple.
